The VisionBettering the health of our community through nutrition education and training.
Obesity persists as a significant and costly public health outcome. Those living in marginalized environments tend to suffer from food insecurity and poor dietary patterns. Oftentimes, these people are children and mothers who are in desperate need of access to nutrition education and other public health services. For the development of healthy children, maternal nutrition must be addressed from a strong and diverse heath workforce. The Translational Training, Education, and Leadership Program in MCH Nutrition, otherwise know as The TRANSCEND Program, is housed in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Penn State University, Arizona State University, and Montclair State University. Directed by Meg Bruening, PhD, MPH, RD (Penn State), and supported by Associate Directors Corrie Whisner, PhD (Arizona State) and Lauren Dinour, DrPH, RD, CLC (Montclair), the program provides accessible, high-quality, interprofessional training for graduate nutrition students. The TRANSCEND Program will bring improved nutrition training by emphasizing MCH nutrition in its curricula. The TRANSCEND Program works to address the need for a diverse healthcare workforce in order to see improvement in maternal and child health outcomes and the overall quality of care through providing continuing education and technical assistance to MCH professionals. Through the TRANSCEND Program, the science of MCH can be put into action. |
